I used Nortons Utilities PC Wipe to clear up FREE SPACE on my PC. I have 13.9 GIG total with before the WIPE 7 GIGs FREE. After the Wipe I had 633MB FREE HD SPACE!!! I troubleshooted it on Symantec and I need to start in SAFE MODE and select DOS COMMAND PROMPT however when I go start in SAFE MODE it bypasses that MENU and startup PROGRAMS. I need to delete the Win386.swp file!1 HELP

Anil> This might be a starting point: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/windows/topics/errormsg/kbkern.asp

There are many possible causes for the kernel error, if you have more information I might be able to pinpoint this.

Oscar> As to the .swp file, leave it. It's just fine.

Delete the swap file like this:

Restart and boot to a DOS prompt, yes you can use a win 98 ESD (emergency startup disk). At the dos prompt type this exactly:

del c:\windows\win386.swp

then Reboot.
When you restart, windows automatically recreates the file, but it will rebuild in size again.

from what i keep reading its pointless in deleting the Swp file if windows recreates the file after you boot the system..but is there a way to delete it Completely and what are the consequences of deleting it?
