my sis keeps getting a message:
The Windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device, but the device file no longer exists ..try reinstalling the application.
javasup.vxd cannot find a device file that maybe needed.
Then when her computer restarted it ran scandisk now it keeps starting up in safe mode and the romdrive won't open.
i think the javasup.vxd is for java machine. Can she reinstall from the win98 cd? And how? Any ideas would be great.

first try pressing start then Run and type sfc in the box hit enter. Scan for changed deleted/currupt files and update reinstall or ignore when prompted.
Right click 'my computer' go to device manager tab and look for any yellow question marks if there is then there is a problem with that particular device and/or driver.
If it is java and none of the above fixes anything then go to microsoft update and update, also look for up dated java machine there or go to Sun and download the original version

thanks. i can't get to start. it tries to go to safe mode then says "you can now safely turn off your computer" how can i get to the file checker tool?
