I extracted this excert from URL: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=std&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10052&os=&type=&mfg=&bios=

Solo 1150 BIOS, version 21.09
Supports: All Operating Systems
Note: When updating your computer's BIOS, the update process fails if you use a floppy disk formatted in Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows NT®, or Windows XP. Instead, use a new IBM pre-formatted disk. Refer to Readme.txt file for more details.

maybe this was your problem ?

Yea, I read that. I booted with a 98 bootdisk and it recognized the harddrive and the cd.(fat32)
The program ran fine, progress bars and all.
I have done this on many pc's and never had this result. Of course I never did a Phoenix before either. What a crappy bios that is. No selections for anything. I will keep searching for the motherboard layout. maybe Ill get lucky.

Sorry it took so long to get back.
Was upgrading from (#on chip is CA1B original bios )
to the latest on gateway site 7511.exe
There is no way to extract a rom or bin out of the exe or I would do that and try reprogramming the chip (I have access to a programmer)Im afraid a new MB is the only solution.
