PC Freezes After Boot Up in XP

As soon as pc boots up and you move the mouse to the start menu, the pc freezes. I have attempted to push CRTL ALT DELETE and it would not work. The only thing that would work was to manually turn the pc off with the restart button. I have been able to go to control panel through the start menu once and try to uninstall a program. I was unsuccess in doing this, but was able to push CRTL ALT DELETE to discover that rundll32.exe was taking up all of the processor of my pc. Please help with any suggestions that you might have with my problem. Thanks! I have a Compaq Presario 5100 series desktop with 733 mhz processor, 192 mb ram , and 120 gb harddrive with 8 mb caching system.

Try loading it in safe mode.. keep tapping F8 when loading (after the initial bios beep, and before windows loads).
This will load it without and device drivers or software. If it still doesnt work, then you'll have to try a clean install of windows.
If it works, try using msconfig (Run on start menu, type in msconfig and hit enter). This will allow you to choose what software windows will start with, try removing them all, and adding one by one..
Hope this helps..
