Full Version: please help me get rid of spy falcon(Resolved)

Somehow there is an application called Spy Falcon on my pc. It keeps putting pop-ups on the screen saying my computer is infected and it is going to download and install the latest anti-spyware software but I suspect SpyFalcon is actually spyware or malware. I tried to uninstall it in control panel but it keeps coming back !

Also, Semantec is telling me I've got Dialer.DialPlatform on my pc ! Can you tell me if that's true ?

Also, EWIDO picks up a "clean and block" every time I boot up for "mssearchnet.exe". Is this a nasty ?

Oops, third edit...HJT log attached

it worked for me

We cannot rely on companys that force installation of a program to a persons computer to actually provide a effective removal tool. We have methods of removing malware from computers and we have experts in that field working this board. Please be patient, they will be with you shortly.

Hello Essex smile.gif

Seems we let this slide and then someone posted to it to revive it. Sorry we missed it sad.gif

But!! now that its been awoken once again and i see its a little dated, can you please show us a new hijack log and we will see what we can do with it. smile.gif

Hi I also had spy falcon on my pc (I do take security seriously, however I have a teenage son who also uses this pc which is obviously where I sometimes get problems).

I struggled to get rid of it (spy falcon) without success until I found your site & followed the instructions given by the above poster. This has appeared to have solved my problem (no more spy falcon, viruses gone, trogans gone, system running like a dream).

I have just registered to come back and thank 'grimzz' for his help. However I now see you have removed his instructions and I was wondering if I should be concerned about my system since doing what he suggested? Like I say it seems perfect now.

I have ran several virus scans & downloaded & ran the microsoft malware software, neither of which have found anything wrong.

Can you put my mind at rest?

Cheers

Hello dave you have jumped into a active thread, if you have any more concerns start your own thread and we will see what we can do for you.

Hi guys

Thanks for picking up my thread, I was beginning to feel like a fart in a space-suit (unwanted) biggrin.gif

Regardless of all the other people knocking around in my thread (hi to you guys too) here's my hjt log

While I was waiting I read several other threads and hit my pc with every spyware / adware / trojan remover known to man and I think I may have got rid of it but here's my hjt log. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some other nasties ferretting around anyway

Hello again smile.gif

I had a look at your log and all seems good except one thing struck me as odd.

Do you use any service from the ukraine like a isp provider?

Hi again John and thanks again for your help

Here's the HJT log you requested and hopefully I'm free of potential nasties.
We had the pc competely rebuilt a few weeks ago as a result of a nasty power surge and it was running like a dream. But in the space of the last few days I've noticed it slowing down again. Is there an easy way to see what might be running in the background causing it ? Is it possible there are too many anti-spyware / anti virus programs competing against one another ?

The hijack log was clean biggrin.gif

I see one file that we need to get rid of because it looks like its still running around.

find your way to this file and delete if found.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe <---This file

Oh!! before you go looking for that file make sure this is done.

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Let me know if you cant find that file we may have to go to safe and see if we can find it that way.

Hello again smile.gif

I know of just the tool that may let us know if that is still there or not.

Please download FileFind from Atribune.
Unzip the file and save it to your desktop.

To run FileFind, please do the following:
  • Click on FileFind.exe
  • In the box labeled "Directory"
    • Enter Drive eg.. C:\
  • In the box labeled "File"
    • Enter the file or use *.(file extention) to search for the file(s)
  • Now click on the "Search" button
  • Once the utility has found the files click on "Export"
  • A Notepad will open up. Please copy the entire contents of the Notepad and paste them here.
  • NOTE: The notepad is saved on your C:\ drive as "Export.txt"

I pasted msssearchnet.exe in the find box and nope, it didn't find it. So that sounds like good news ?

John, did you spot anything in the other two lists I sent the other day ?

A lot of companies will ask you to download free trial versions (or pay versions) of their software to get rid of Spy Falcon. If you are handy with a computer, try the tutorial at

Deleted url, not aproved by newbie

It is 100% free and they won't ask you to buy a product to fix your computer. Its pretty detailed, and might even work for other variants like Spy Sherrif, etc..

Please refrain from posting in other users threads.

That application found nothing thats good thumbsup.gif

As far as those other lists i asked about again, nothing was found. smile.gif

So in those findings were zero, i can conclude this issue is over, unless i missed something.

OK John, I can live with the slight slowdown of the pc. As long as there are no nasties lurking around I'm more than happy

Thanks so much for your help again thumbsup.gif

Your very welcome glad i could help. smile.gif

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free smile.gif

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:

Spyware Blaster Spyware Guard

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE--Adaware Tutorial

Spybot S&D--Spybot Tutorial

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

AVG Avast

Firewalls are also a must in any good prevention :

Zone Alarm Tiny Personal Firewall

There are different browsers available on the net, other than Internet Explorer, we believe!! these are better for security purposes :

Firefox Opera

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :

Housecall Online Scan Panda Activescan

Housecall Java Online Scan<---For those who use Firefox

And finally a little IPB Image How did I get infected in the first place ? (by Mr. Tony Klein)

Good luck and safe surfing smile.gif
