Copy & Paste Between Programs

"Copy & Paste" is useful for transferring text between programs. If, for example, you wanted to save part of a webpage you could copy the text from the webpage and paste it into a document for saving on your computer. Much better than retyping.

Step1 In this first frame you see two different Notepad programs sitting side by side for simplicity. There is text in the document on the left and a blank new document on the right.

Step2 Using the mouse to highlight the text we select the second line for copying.

Step3 To copy the highlighted text click on the Edit option and then select Copy from the submenu. As you can see by the submenu we could have copied the text by pressing "control" and "C" at the same time.

Step4 Now that we have the text copied we move our attention to the document on the right. You'll notice the text cursor is now active in the right Notepad. (That's the vertical bar.)

Step5 To paste the copied text click on the Edit option and then select Paste from the submenu. As you can see by the submenu we could have pasted the text by pressing "control" and "V" at the same time.

Step6 Here you see the text has been pasted into the document on the right. That is how you copy and paste between programs.
