With the zillions of gigabytes of harddrive storage available on current computers it is not hard to lose a file. Here's how to find on.
1 The first step is to click on the Start button to bring up the Start submenu.
2 Highlight the "Find" option on the Start Menu using the mouse. Click with the Left Mouse Button and yet another submenu will be presented.
3 This Find Submenu gives you the option of "Files or Folders" or "Computer". Highlight and select the "Files or Folders" option. This should invoke the Find program.
4 Click into the big white edit box so that you can enter a file name.You'll notice that it's possible to look on different drives by selecting drives from the box below. You also have the choice of including subdirectories or not.
5 Here we've typed in "com*.dll". This will look for all files starting with the three letters com, ending with the extension ".dll" and anything at all in the middle. Let's see what happens. Click on the "Find Now" button.
6 Here you see a file listing at the bottom of the "Find" windows. If you look you will see that all the files begin with "com", end with ".dll" and have a variety of stuff in the middle.
